Sandwiched between two of North Dakota’s most populous cities, Mayville is a step away from the busy streets of Grand Forks and Fargo.
The city of about 1,800 is the largest city in Traill County, which has mostly avoided large increases in COVID-19 cases in the past few months. Since mid-March, Traill County has had a total of 68 positive cases of COVID-19.
Mayville Mayor Steve Bensen said people are tending to stay closer to home and supporting local businesses during the pandemic.
“I think people are accepting the fact that normal isn’t what normal used to be,” Bensen said. “I know us Norwegians like to visit, and I think there’s a lot less visiting at the different venues or around town than there probably has been in the past.”
